The word Abhyangam means "To Massage". Abhyangam is a Special type of oil massage in which strokes are given according to the needs of patient for about 45 minutes per day for 14 days. It is very useful for treating obesity, stress, fatigue, body pains and stiffness.

The Massage is done with a combination of specially prepared Ayurvedic herbal oils and applied all over the body stimulating the vital points. This is very good for the general health of the skin, prevention of early aging and providing for relief from muscular aches and pain. After the massage, herbal steam bath is also given.

Abhyangam can increase the production of white blood cells and antibodies, which provide more resistance against various infections. This helps the defence mechanism in the body and increases immunity towards environmental changes. In this way, Abhyangam massage is a protector, preserver and a rejuvenator, increasing self-confidence and will power.

It is a process by which herbal oils, medicated milk, buttermilk etc are allowed to flow on the forehead in a special method for about 45 minutes in a day for 7 to 21 days. This treatment is helpful in treating insomnia, vatha predominated diseases, mental disorders, neurasthenia, memory loss and certain skin diseases.

In Thakra Dhara, after giving head massage medicated Buttermilk is poured in an uninterrupted flow from a hanging vessel to the forehead and scalp. This is very good in treating scalp problems like dandruff, Psoriasis, hypertension, Diabetes, hair loss and other skin complaints. This gives head very cooling action and generates sleep.

In Siro Dhara, after giving a good head massage herbal oil is poured in an uninterrupted flow from a hanging vessel to the forehead and scalp. This is very good for obtaining relief from stress and strain and generates sleep.

This is done by pouring certain lukewarm herbal oils into a cap put on the head for 15 to 60 minutes per day depending upon the condition of the patient for a period of 7 to 14 days. This is highly effective for dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, facial paralysis, severe headache and other vatha based diseases.

A leather sleeve of about six to eight inches in length is placed on the shaven head of the patient and a band (vartti) tied around the forehead to keep it in place. Kneaded dough is used to line the inside of this sleeve and ensure that it does not leak. Oil is then poured into the sleeve and allowed to remain on the head for a while. The length of time the oil should be kept there is determined by the physicians according to the need.

Sirovasti is very good for treatment of cervical problems, sleeplessness, migraine and other problems of head, hair loss and tinnitus.

It involves application of lukewarm herbal oils over the body by a special rhythmic style for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for 7 to 21 days. A highly rejuvenating treatment, its useful for healing all cases of nervous disorders, treatment for paralytic, rheumatic, diabetic patients etc and as a rejuvenate course.

In Pizhichil treatment, lukewarm medicated oil is applied on the body of the patient lying on the dhara table. Later, Oil dipped pieces of cloth are squeezed by hand and the oils dripped from the cloth are rubbed smoothly over the body of the patient by masseurs on either side. The medicated oil is pressed out of the cloth uniformly over the body at a defined height and massaged by skillful hands.

Pizhichil is recommended for treatment of stiffness and pain of joints and limbs, dislocation of joints, paralytic conditions and in ladies with a history of uterine inertia in earlier deliveries, complaints associated with Menopause. Many persons also make use of this treatment for rejuvenation and preservation of health to offset early aging. Sclerotic changes can also be prevented by this treatment.

Urovasthi involves placement of specially prepared warm medicated oil kept in herbal paste boundary, on the chest. Its an effective treatment for respiratory problems, heart disease and muscular chest pains.

After a gentle massage on the body, a mixture specially prepared warm herbal oil is poured over the chest and retained inside an herbal paste boundary for 45 minutes. The healing properties of herbal oils used for this massage enriches the blood and builds and maintains strong muscle and connective tissues. It is a stimulating and therapeutic treatment for muscular chest pain.

It involves sponging the body/head with cotton sponges dipped in medicated oils. This treatment is useful for treating paralysis, rheumatism, nervous breakdown, Backache, Headche, sleeplessness/insomnia, hypertension and Migraine, etc.

It involves keeping the medicated Ghee in the eyes for 15-30 minutes within a herbal paste boundary. This helps to enhance better eyesight with less strain, better blood circulation to the eyes and protection of the eyes from age related problems.

Under Patra Potali Swedam, Leaves & powders of medicinal herbs are fried in medicated oil and applied over the body with rhythmic massage.

It's a variety of fomentation process that involves usage of herbal leaves, boluses and medicated oils. If applied continuously for a period of 7 days, arthritic conditions, lumbago, cervical Spondylosis, frozen shoulder, sciatica, pain and stiffness of joints, post paralytic spasm, other spastic and inflammatory conditions, etc, can be cured.

It's a special massage with herbal powders for treatment of diseases like hemiplegia, paralysis, obesity (excess fat) and certain rheumatic ailments.

Under Udwarthanam, Herbal powders are massaged in a special way for 30 - 45 minutes every day for 7 to 28 days. This helps to reduce overweight problems and control of cholesterol of the body. It also helps to strengthen muscles and tighten loose skin.

It is a fomentation process with medicated cow milk that helps to eliminate facial paralysis disorders and other nervous disorders of the face and speech disorders, cervical spondylosis, spastic disorders and neurological problems.

Under this treatment process, medicated milk is heated and the steam is passed over the entire body. It is effective for treating numbness, headache, allergies, nervous disorder and paralysis.

In Steam bath treatment, precious herbal leaves and herbs are boiled and the steam is passed over the whole body. This is good for certain types of skin diseases for eliminating impurities and improving the tone of the body for reducing fat, etc.

Under this treatment, after a full body massage using lukewarm therapeutic oils, steam produced by the boiling of certain herbs and their leaves in water, is filled in a cavity in which the patient is kept. Under Nasya treatment, drops of medicated oil are administered in each nostril of the patient. This treatment helps to eliminate the toxins from the head and neck region and is useful in curing headaches, migraine, sinusitis, chronic cold , chest congestion, cervical spondylosis and Facial Palsy.

It assures lightness of the body and head ensuring better sleep and also helps in curing degeneration of cervical vertebrae.

It's a major body purification procedure in Panchakarma therapy. When there is congestion in the lungs causing repeated attacks of bronchitis, cold, cough. Vamanam is administrated to eliminate the Kapha causing the excess mucus.

Virechanam is the method of cleaning and evacuation of the bowels through the use of purgative medicines. It involves oral administration of medicine to purify the whole body to attain proper balance of vatha, pitha and kapha based on the panchkarma.

It eliminates excess bile toxins from the mid zone of the body. Hence for many of the digestive ailments, people resort to this form of treatment.

When the digestive tract is clean and toxic-free, it benefits the entire body system. As a result, the person's appetite increases, body strength enhances and the person becomes active and buoyant. Thus, Virechanam also functions as an excellent rejuvenative procedure.

In Ayurveda Chikilsa, Vasti has an important place in the treatment of many disorders.

Under Vasthi treatment, certain herbal oils, herbal extracts etc., are applied through the rectum. The process resembles the enema, but the purpose is different. It is considered to be the best treatment for vatha diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness, gastric complaints associated with rheumatism and constant constipation.

It involves application of special powder mixed with medicated oil on the top of the head for 15 to 45 minutes. Its regarded to be extremely useful for obtaining relief from ENT Problems, Insomnia , migraine hypertension, skin diseases, etc.

It involves application of medicated herbal paste on the affected part of the body. It is very useful for various types of inflammatory and spastic conditions.

It's a rejuvenation Therapy of neck & above through administration of Herbal extract to the eye. The application of Herbal extract with Honey or Rosewater inside the eyes helps to remove foreign bodies, heal itching and burning sensation in the eyes that happens due to exposure to allergens.

Under this treatment, the body is forced to perspire using Navara and other herbal medicines for 60-90 minutes for 7 to 21 days according to the requirements. A special type of Rice called Navara is cooked in milk and herbal decoction is packed in small cotton bundles. With this the whole body is massaged.
